Giving Back!

Posted over 4 years ago by Brian Lauf

Giving back is an essential part of being a professional. Recall the excitement of learning that you were accepted to PA school, your first few days of class, your first day of clinical rotations, your first preceptor, and the many firsts along the path of becoming a PA. These firsts required the support of practicing PAs in the community through admissions, guest lecturing, skills training, and precepting students, to mention a few.  Nevada is fortunate to have only two PA programs (University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine PA Studies and Touro University Nevada School of Physician Assistant Studies) for its approximate 3 million citizens and 1000+ practicing PAs. Despite this favorable ratio, an ongoing struggle remains to identify and maintain community preceptors (and then throw COVID into the mix)  to ensure our future PA colleagues have the best opportunity to lead our profession through excellence in patient care. There are many reasons not to get involved and a thousand more reasons why you should. Your practice and livelihood as a PA depend on the quality and strength of our future colleagues. Please consider giving back to this great profession through mentorship, volunteerism, sharing your expertise, and supporting Nevada’s PA programs. To all of you that continue to give back—you know who you are—thank you for everything you do!

Be well and stay safe.
